BEST EMS can provide partner departments with EMT and Paramedic continuing education classes that conform to, or exceed, continuing education requirements as set forth by the Texas Department of State health Services as well as the National Registry. Our goal is for your personnel to be able to receive all needed EMS continuing education while on shift, without the need to supplement from additional sources (unless so desired). We have an ongoing 27-month cycle (4 hours/month) CE program. The classes can be taught by our Medical Directors, specialty physician partners, or approved paramedic instructors. We can also provide FTO Train the Trainer, critical care paramedic, jurisprudence, and pre-hospital ultrasound classes. All our physicians enjoy being educators. Whether classroom style education of requested/pertinent topics, Q&A in the stations on ride out days, “In the Moment” education after complicated calls, or after-action reviews, we enjoy being able to interact with our teams. Sharing of ideas, discussing of recent literature or latest conference recommendations, or recommendations for protocols updates allows us to get to know what is important to our departments.
We have been providing live (virtual at agency request) CE to our partner agencies/departments since 2013 with more than 400 different lectures in our library and new ones created monthly. Developing innovative ways to teach skills that are cost effective is an ongoing project. We currently provide live, recorded, and voice-over power point presentations, but are actively working on a potential podcast option Through our partnerships with local hospital leaders, observation rotations for our partner paramedics can be arranged.
We partner with our Willed Body Program to provide quarterly cadaver labs for procedural education. CEs are updated and refreshed every 2 years to ensure the content is consistent with State of the Science/Evidence Based Practice and meet our partner department’s needs. In addition to the latest research, we utilize student evaluations, dedicated instructor feedback, on-line Medical Control call data, and EMS/Fire leadership suggestions to ensure our educational schedule meets expectations.
BEST EMS provides a web-based platform for tracking your personnel’s educational performance. We track continuing education course completion date, grade, evaluation, and state/national registry category. Virtual CE certificates (can be printed if needed) for each class are stored online in labeled folders. Each student has the option to receive a personal Annual CE Summary certificate that details how many hours by topic they have completed in the preceding year. A summary CE certificate may be requested by the student or EMS leadership at any point during the CE year if needed. Should any personnel be audited by DSHS, we provide an audit packet and any other assistance needed.
The BEST EMS website provides EMS leadership with online access to the training and certifications provided to their EMS providers. Our web resource provides easy to interpret tracking spreadsheets which assist in determining provider performance, predict future training needs, and ensure continued compliance with all medical certification requirements. Digital tracking tools include EMS Provider Tracking Rosters as well as Individual Paramedic Tracking spreadsheet tabs.
BEST EMS physicians enjoy case-based teaching whether it be at the station during ride outs or in the more formal setting of CE/Grand round. Our Medical Directors partner directly with EMS training coordinators to ensure educational needs are met.
